Kiwifruit colorful, loaded with nutrition

Have you tried a kiwifruit? This small, brown, fuzzy fruit is about 700 years old and started in the Yang-Tse valley at China, where it was known as "Yangtao." The Yangtao was recognized a fragility by the court of the great Khans who appreciated its delicious flavor and emerald-green color.

Soon the knowledge of the fruit spread over other countries as well, and plant cuttings were brought in to the United States. Seeds were sent to New Zealand, and the fruit was renamed the "Chinese Gooseberry." In 1962 these fruit were shipped to the United States, where it was again re-named Kiwifruit after New Zealand’s national bird called the "kiwi." In the 1970s, it was grown in California and obtainable for the first time in supermarkets all through the United States.
