Fruits, vegetables too few in U.S. diets

ATLANTA (AP) -- Less than a third of American youth consume the amount of fruits and vegetables the government suggests a trend that's stays steady for more than a decade, health officials stated yesterday.

That's "well below" the government's objective of getting 75 percent of Americans to consume two servings of fruits and having half of the population eat three servings of vegetables every day by 2010, said Dr. Larry Cohen of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
