Gooseberry Fruit

Ribes uva-crispa being the scientific name of gooseberry, it is native to Europe, northwestern Africa, west, south and Southeast Asia. It is a species of ribes. Having said that, it is one of several similar species in the subgenus Grossularia

Even though more often than not positioned as a subgenus within Ribes, a few taxonomists treat Grossularia as a separate genus. The subgenus Grossularia shows a discrepancy to some extent from currants, predominantly in their barbed stems, and in that their plants nurture one to three collectively on short stems, not in racemes. It is grown on both commercial and domestic basis.

Culinary uses:
