Old-Fashioned Banana Cream Pie-Fruit Recipe

Bananas are high in calories, vitamins and potassium and they can be purchased any season as they are available throughout the year. Banana cream pie recipe is an excellent delicious pie and definitely a stomach filling one. It is very easy to prepare this recipe and as bananas are less expensive it does not cost much and at the same time it does not take much of your time too. While buying bananas, avoid the ones which have a lot of brown spots on them and pick the ones which are bright in color. Bananas can be refrigerated for few days to prevent them from ripening but ripened bananas can be used in recipes. The ingredients needed to prepare this recipe are listed below followed by its instruction.

  • 1 baked pie crusts
  • 3 cups of whole milk
  • ¾ cups of white sugar
  • 1/3 cup of all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • 3 egg yolks, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 3 bananas

Instructions:

  1. Have a baked 9-inch pie shell ready.
  2. In a large saucepan, heat the milk and in another saucepan, combine the sugar, flour and salt and gradually stir in the scalded milk.
  3. Heats the above mixture until it becomes thick and do not forget to stir it occasionally over medium heat.
  4. In a small bowl, pour the beaten egg yolks and stir a small amount of the hot mixture into beaten yolks and combine it thoroughly.
  5. Allow it to cook for a minute longer and keep on stirring it constantly.
  6. Remove it from heat and blend it with butter and vanilla and allow it to cool down until it becomes lukewarm.
  7. Slice the bananas and scatter in pie shell.
  8. Now pour the warm mixture over bananas to complete this delicious recipe.



You can also make use of left over egg whites to the top of the pie which will make the recipe even healthier. It just takes 30 minutes to prepare this recipe and it is for the ones who do not like to spend more time in the kitchen. It can be served as an evening time snack for children and it is also very easy to prepare.
