Research says fruit Consumption has less impact on Cardiovascular Disease

A recent study conducted says that the risk of cardiovascular disease can be reduced up to 40% by eating fruits.

Findings of seven year follow-up study involving just about 0.5 million people states that more fruit consumption means less risk of cardiovascular disease.

Nearly 452,000 participants were involved for this seven-year study with no history of the disease. Consumption of fruit was recorded based on five categories namely: never, monthly, one to three days per week, four to six days per week, daily.

In addition, the comparison report found that people who ate fruits had less CVD risk by 25 to 40 percent. There was a prescribed amount response affiliation between the frequency of fruit consumption and the risk of cardiovascular disease.

The data clearly states that consuming fresh fruits reduce CVD risk together with ischaemic heart disease and stroke (particularly haemorrhagic stroke). Du has also said that, compared to less or no fruit, eating some extra portions is beneficial comparatively.

The result showed the benefit of taking fruits: Patients with cardiovascular disease and hypertension- the researchers add.

The experiment categorized into three sets, was recently published in The Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology.

A group of 60 participants were involved in the first experiment. 27 faces- digital images were shown with two versions. One featured high-carotenoid pigmentation and the other displayed low-carotenoid pigmentation. Participants were asked to rate the most attractive face color of each version.

Just about 86% participants voted for the high-carotenoid version.

An experiment of similar type was conducted with a fresh group of 60 participants, in which 78.5% rated the high-melanin faces as more attractive.

The same procedure was followed in the third experiment as well, but they were asked to rate whether high-melanin or high-carotenoid faces were more attractive.

High carotenoid faces were voted- it got 75.9%.

The overall findings say: over melanin coloration, carotenoid coloration had great impact on the skin glow together with some improvised health issues.

5 portions of Fruits and Veggies Can Lower Risk of Death

An apple a day keeps the doctor way is the cliche, but an apple (or five) a day does more than just keeping the doctor away.

Several studies suggest that consumption of fruits and vegetables on a regular basis i.e. daily can help reduce the risk of mortality. This specially applies to diseases related to heart especially cancer. Associated with this type of study, the BMJ, researchers from China and the U.S. have found that this theory does not apply to all types of death.

With a total of 833,234 participants the research included 16 studies, 56,423 of whom died. Having said that, several factors were taken into consideration in order to minimize bias, various differences were taken into account and the subgroups were analyzed to confirm that results did not show a discrepancy by location.

With that said, there was a contradiction with another recent study in the BMJ’s Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. It revealed that seven portions of fruits and veggies are linked to lowest death risk.

On the other hand, researchers said studies may be at variance in their classifications of fruits and vegetables, and there was a possibility of error in how people reported their eating habits.

It was not significantly associated with risk of death; researchers said more studies are needed to examine in order to come up with this thought process.

New roots help tropical fruits to grow longer

Darwin horticulturist says it is this factor that prevented the farmers from growing these priceless crops in the past, on a commercial scale.

It is because of the dry season weather, the large plantations of up to 3,000 [trees] have failed even as there are successful small plots.

Helping the trees to grow all year round, Mr. Nathanael is grafting better root systems to combat the setback.

Tolerating the dry season conditions, he has found a root stock to graft onto the tree i.e. with the achacha he said. Enduring the local conditions, the additional rootstock helps in growing without any hinder.

In addition, he also hopes that the new roots will help to perk up the quality of the fruit on the trees. While hoping to have the aforesaid benefits, he also looks forward for a bigger and better fruit while having an enhanced fruit flavor.

It’s believed that the research could lead to the start up of new tropical fruit industries in the Top End.

At present, north Queensland is home to Australia’s only across-the-board achacha farm, as the county also has a number of mangosteen farms between Townsville and Cairns.

As far as Australia and northern territory is concerned, there has always been room for new fruits. Taking an approximate duration of 5 to 15 years, he hopes to have good results in a couple of year’s time.

Fruits and veggies to be sold from trucks

A top official of the Ministry of Economy said Abu Dhabi Municipality has let trucks to vend fruits and veggies to consumers at the Mina Zayed Souq from 7pm to midnight.

Fruits and vegetables transportation trucks from other countries and Abu Dhabi are not allowed to sell at the Mina Zayed the main wholesale market directly. The ministry having requested the municipality to let trucks to sell the commodities during the month of Ramadan so as to meet the huge demand for fresh farm produces. Just about hundreds of people, from across the capital comes here to buy fruits and vegetables which are to be had at better prices when compared to retail shops.

Conveying that sigh of relief to the consumers, Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi, Director of the consumer protection department at the Ministry of Economy said, compared to the shops, prices will be less.

After the inspection process, Dr Al Nuaimi said that he was very much satisfied that all essential food items were available and at “good” prices. “He warned a shop keeper for selling a bunch of mint leaves for Dh2 and ordered him to sell it at Dh1 and display the prices properly”

Having denied that food prices were rising in Abu Dhabi, a separate campaign was held in collaboration with leading supermarkets to offer a food basket consisting of all essential food items including rice, oil and dates at below the market rates, he added.

n addition, he also said that the Abu Dhabi Cooperative, LuLu Hypermarket, and other retail outlets are offering food items at 40 per cent subsidised rates.

Low supply has impacted fruit prices- sales down

Kathmandu- due to low supply, fruit prices have gone up. Declined imports from India, the main contribution to rise in the price, the major supplier of fruits to Nepal, traders said.

Summer fruits having shown a great price elevation by up to 50 percent over last week, especially prices of mangoes and watermelons have gone up. Having shown a drastic change, Malda mango is now sold for Rs 90 per kg which was Rs 60 per kg a week ago at Kuleshwor wholesale market. Dasheri mango has also shown a price up with Rs 65 per kg.

Over the last week, watermelon was sold for Rs. 35 and now it has soared upto Rs.50 per kg while oranges are sold for Rs 110 per kg which was at Rs 80 a week ago. This change has also impacted fuji apple and Jhole apple rose. With that said, even papaya, jackfruit and grapes prices have been changed.

Because of the change in apple price in the domestic market, there has been a change in the prices in china. The president of Nepal fruits wholesaler’s association, Amar Baniya said   massive supply decline in china has pushed the prices upward.

Banana, being one of the fruits consumed all seasons showed up in price range of Rs 80 per dozen, from Rs 65. Supplied from Nawalparasi, Chitwan, Bara, Parsa and Sunsari, besides India, just about 60 percent of the bananas sold in the Capital come from India.

According to Nepal Rastra Bank statistics, 1.84 billion of fruits have been imported from formal channels as of first 10 months of the current fiscal year.

Due to the outcome of lower precipitation i.e. rainfall, during the flowering period, fruits supply was affected, Baniya said. There will also be a further rise in the price as consignments from India have dropped due to high demand there amid the Ramadan festival, Baniya adds.
